Rabies Alerts

Northside – Duval County’s third rabies alert for the year has been issued for the Northside area. The alert is in effect through October 8, 2010.

The rabies alert area is bordered on the north by Longwood Key Drive, North at Coral Ridge Drive, on the south by Lexington Drive at Delaware Avenue, on the east by Busch Drive at Balmoral Drive, and on the west by Capper Road at Northwyck Drive.

The alert follows the discovery of a rabid cat in the Highlands area. However, after further investigation it has been determined that there was human exposure involved in the alert. As a precaution, pet owners should confine their animals and be certain that each animal has received current rabies immunization shots from a licensed veterinarian.


Arlington – Duval County’s fourth rabies alert for the year has been issued for the Arlington area. The alert is in effect through October 23, 2010.

The rabies alert area is bordered on the north by Merrill Road at Rogero Road, on the south by Glynlea Road at Nightingale Court, on the east by Mill Creek Road at Arlington Expressway, and on the west by St. Johns River and Rio St. Johns Drive, South.

The alert follows the discovery of a rabid raccoon in the Arlington area. Further investigation has determined human exposure involved in this alert. As a precaution, pet owners should confine their animals and be certain that each animal has received current rabies immunization shots from a licensed veterinarian.


Stray animals should be reported to the City of Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services at 630-2489.
