Maternal and Child Health Maternal and Child Health serves as an advocate to improve the health status of the Jacksonville community through education, prevention and partnerships. Through its services the division emphasizes growth, nutrition development and mental and physical health of mother and child from prenatal care to postpartum care. The Maternal and Child Health Division is dedicated to meeting the ongoing and changing needs of pregnant and postpartum women, parents, infants and children. Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention The
Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program mobilizes the Duval County
Community, including residents, service providers, teens and concerned
others to address teen pregnancy prevention from family planning and youth
development perspectives. A former
Centers for Disease Control Initiative, this program focuses on life
skills development, adolescent health, parental education and social
marketing. The pregnancy prevention
program provides staff work and expertise to the Jacksonville community in
program planning, development and teen pregnancy prevention initiatives,
such as the Teen Health/Education Hour that meets several times during the
month, in community-based settings and the Teen Males Health Hour,
targeted towards adolescent males in juvenile justice residential
facilities / community-based settings. The
Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program works hand-in-hand with the
Healthy People 2010 Healthy Jacksonville Coalitions. In
addition, program staff is working in conjunction with the Health Services
Division to coordinate educational activities with the DCHD’s Health
Services Division, by collaborating on clinical/community based
initiatives to educate teens around pregnancy prevention and to work with
the community identifying and developing culturally sensitive and relevant
education materials about family planning and available family planning
services. For more information, call: (904) 253-2723 Behavioral
